Registration: statuses, dates and nameservers

registration

Is this domain on hold, expired or locked at its registry, and which nameservers does the registry list for it?

1. a domain, then read

the tool

registration Read a registration

Read a domain's registration from its registry's RDAP server: each status with what it means for resolution, the registration, expiry and change dates, the nameservers, whether the delegation is signed. Not for what DNS answers: check_domain. Read over HTTPS from the isitdns edge through IANA's RDAP bootstrap, and no contacts are returned. A hostname is read at the name, then each parent down to the registered domain, and each HTTP read is listed with its URL, status and time.

from where

The isitdns edge over HTTPS, through IANA's RDAP bootstrap to the registry's own server.

what it does not read

  • Contacts: none are returned.
  • What DNS answers for the domain: that is check_domain.

inputs

inputtypedefaultwhat it is
domain requiredstringThe domain or a hostname under it. Also as "name"; a URL is read as its host.

read

These lines read the first line after the reads (the reading below, /api/registration, registration over MCP).

  • GO no hold: every status the registry stated leaves the delegation published.
  • NO GO NOT PUBLISHED, naming client hold, server hold, inactive or redemption period: the registry is not publishing the delegation (RFC 5731 section 2.3, RFC 3915 section 3.1). Resolvers keep a cached copy until its TTL runs out, and trace shows whether the TLD servers still refer to the zone.
  • NO GO ENDING, naming pending delete or pending restore: the domain is on its way out.
  • NOT RUN the registry stated no status, an UNRECOGNIZED status, no RDAP server listed for the TLD, or a registry that did not answer (the reads lines show each request with its status). Not a GO.

An expiration in the past is printed as days before the read; the statuses above decide the line.

example

Saved example. example.com through the MCP tool, read 2026-10-30T00:33:19.479Z:

api: https://isitdns.net/api/registration?domain=example.com

This reading earns the GO line: no hold, three lock statuses that leave resolution alone, expiry 287 days after the read.

from your own machine
curl -s 'https://isitdns.net/api/registration?domain=example.com'

The same read as JSON: statuses with their effect, the dates, the nameservers and each HTTP request made.
